The 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference is fast approaching, with less than a week remaining until the main keynote. This week, we’re providing a series of rumor recaps for those curious about the features anticipated in Apple’s upcoming software updates.
Naming
Apple has decided to skip directly from iOS 18 to iOS 26, releasing it alongside other updated software like iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26. The “26” indicates the release timeframe from September 2025 to September 2026, with future versions expected to follow suit in numbering.
Design Updates
iOS 26 is set to undergo a significant design overhaul, adopting some features from the visionOS platform. Dubbed “Solarium” internally, the new design hints at a more translucent and glass-like interface, drawing from the aesthetics of visionOS, which incorporates a see-through look to enhance augmented reality interactions.
Apple Intelligence Features
New Apple Intelligence features are anticipated, including an AI-driven battery management system that optimizes power consumption based on user habits. Additionally, updates to the Shortcuts app will allow for more intuitive task automation using natural language, and we may see the integration of Google Gemini for enhanced AI interactions within apps like Siri.
New Features for Existing Apps
Several existing apps are set to receive fresh functionalities. For instance, Messages may include automatic translation and polling capabilities, while the Music app could feature full-screen animated artwork on the Lock Screen. Other apps like Notes and CarPlay are also expected to see significant updates.
Accessibility Features
Apple will introduce new Accessibility options, such as customizable Music Haptics that tailor haptic feedback and Accessibility Reader for improved text readability. Enhanced support for large text in CarPlay and more intuitive personal voice features highlight Apple’s commitment to inclusivity in iOS 26.
