The Seattle Seahawks are essentially on summer break until training camp begins on July 23, with rookies required to report by July 15. As we wait for the offseason events open to the public, let’s look at another projection for the Seahawks’ roster. This is an initial 53-man roster, and it’s common for adjustments to occur after preseason cuts, so the lineup for Week 1 may differ by Week 2. The Seahawks are facing numerous challenges due to their many rookies and young talents.
To keep things straightforward, I won’t list any players on the PUP list until we have more information about injuries next month.
Offense (26)
Quarterback (3): Sam Darnold, Drew Lock, Jalen Milroe (R)
Cut: N/A
Notes: Unless there’s unexpected trade interest for Lock, I believe the Seahawks will keep three QBs on the active roster. It won’t hurt to have Milroe inactive on game days occasionally.
Running Back (3): Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, Damien Martinez (R)
Cut: Kenny McIntosh, Jacardia Wright, George Holani
Notes: Kenneth Walker III is currently facing trade rumors and has had a challenging year, being on a contract year and coming off an injury-plagued season. It might be wise to let him play out his contract to assess whether to re-sign him. For RB3, either Martinez or McIntosh will likely make the roster, with McIntosh potentially being more suited for the practice squad.
Wide Receiver (6): Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Jake Bobo, Tory Horton (R), Ricky White III (R)
Cut: Dareke Young, Cody White, Montorie Foster, Tyrone Broden, Steven Sims, John Rhys Plumlee
Notes: This is a tricky position. MVS is likely to remain on the roster due to his contract. If White III is included, it will be largely due to his special teams contribution. The competition for kick and punt returner roles is still wide open.
Defense (24): The defensive line will consist of Byron Murphy II, Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed, and others. The linebacker group includes Boye Mafe, Derick Hall, and Uchenna Nwosu, while the secondary will feature Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon. Safety positions will go to players like Julian Love and Coby Bryant.
Special Teams (3)
Kicker (1): Jason Myers
Punter (1): Michael Dickson
Long Snapper (1): Chris Stoll
