Aston Martin is not pursuing a £1 billion deal for Max Verstappen, as he “only cares about winning,” according to Aston Martin simulator driver Daniel Juncadella. He finds it hard to understand why anyone would believe such a move is plausible.
The Speculation of Max Verstappen Moving to Aston Martin
Despite having a long-term contract with Red Bull that extends through the end of the 2028 Formula 1 season, Verstappen has been the subject of ongoing speculation regarding his future, especially given Red Bull’s recent challenges.
Last year, he was linked to Mercedes, with Toto Wolff hinting at a possible replacement for Lewis Hamilton, while earlier this year rumors of an Aston Martin interest surfaced.
The Daily Mail reported that Aston Martin was considering a £1 billion investment to sign the four-time World Champion. Meanwhile, Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that Verstappen’s salary could be $100 million per year in a proposed three-year contract.
Aston Martin has since “categorically denied” these rumors, according to PlanetF1.com. Juncadella expressed confusion over why anyone would genuinely think that Verstappen could switch teams, particularly since he continues to win races with Red Bull and may secure a fifth consecutive World title, while Aston Martin is still in a developmental phase.
Verstappen’s Perspective on His Future
Regarding Aston Martin’s potential in 2026, Juncadella commented, “I think it’s too soon,” emphasizing that he hasn’t had any simulator experience with the 2026 model yet. He noted there’s a positive atmosphere in the team, although it may not be enough to entice Verstappen to leave Red Bull.
Juncadella stated, “Do you really believe Max cares about money? He only cares about winning; Red Bull is the team for him.” Meanwhile, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner addressed questions about potential exit clauses in Verstappen’s contract. He asserted that a driver’s decision involves more than just contractual agreements, emphasizing the importance of relationships within the team.
Verstappen himself spoke to ESPN about his future in Formula 1, affirming he is committed until 2028 but would continue as long as he enjoys it. With personal milestones, such as the recent birth of his daughter, he expressed a desire to balance his career with family life.
