Walker Monfort Elevated to Executive Vice President of Rockies
DENVER — On Thursday, the Colorado Rockies announced the promotion of Walker Monfort to the role of executive vice president. In this new capacity, Monfort promised to tackle the team’s recent challenges with innovative strategies. The 38-year-old, who previously served as the vice president of corporate partnerships, is aware of the team’s poor performance, having experienced back-to-back seasons with over 100 losses.
“Our record speaks for itself,” Monfort stated. “These past seasons have been challenging, and we have higher expectations moving forward. This is not how we pictured it turning out.” His primary objective is clear: to improve the team’s competitiveness and ultimately secure championships in Denver.
Alongside Monfort’s promotion, the Rockies also shared that Greg Feasel, the president and COO with nearly three decades at the organization, will step down at the end of 2025. Until then, Monfort will work closely with Feasel, officially taking on his new responsibilities in January 2026.
Addressing concerns about potential nepotism due to his family ties, Monfort emphasized his commitment to proving himself. “I’ve worked hard since joining the Rockies and believe I’ve set a strong example,” he remarked. He has accumulated diverse experiences within the organization, starting in various part-time roles before joining full-time in 2009.
Monfort acknowledged the critiques regarding the Rockies’ outdated operations compared to teams of similar market sizes. However, he highlighted recent improvements, such as the opening of a performance lab and the introduction of advanced hitting technologies in their Scottsdale training center for 2023.
Reflecting on his business background, Monfort pointed out the importance of analyzing successful teams like Milwaukee and Cleveland. “We plan to dive deep into how we allocate our resources,” he stated, indicating a desire to adopt successful methodologies from comparable franchises.
Lastly, Monfort addressed the narrative that his family prioritizes business over winning. “Let’s be clear: our goal is to win,” he asserted. With a deep-rooted passion for baseball, he believes there are sufficient resources in place to achieve their championship ambitions.
