Resorts World NYC’s Ambitious Bid for Gaming License
If Resorts World NYC secures one of the three downstate licenses by year’s end, it will mark one of the largest privately funded economic development projects in New York’s history.
On the last day to submit proposals, Resorts World New York City made its bid to the New York State Gaming Commission, unveiling a stunning vision for a $5.5 billion integrated resort in Southeast Queens.
Impact on Employment and Community
The proposal, which spans 5.6 million square feet, aims to expand the only casino in the city, creating thousands of union jobs, generating billions for education and transportation, and enhancing public amenities for the Southeast Queens community.
Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting America East, remarked, “Fifteen years ago, we promised to turn this site into an economic engine for Southeast Queens and have succeeded, producing the highest casino revenues in the U.S. Today marks a significant milestone as we propose this world-class resort that will create new career opportunities and revenue as early as July 2026.”
Job Creation and Development
As part of a competitive field of eight bids for three downstate licenses, Resorts World stands out due to its ambitious size and readiness to generate new incremental revenue within six months of gaining a gaming facility license. The new development could expand its workforce from 1,000 to 5,000 permanent positions in various sectors, with over half of the new hires sourced locally from Queens.
Cultural Engagement
Hip-hop artist Nas, a native of Queensbridge, is collaborating with Resorts World to enhance job opportunities. He narrated and produced a new video titled “It’s About Time,” highlighting the facility’s legacy and future possibilities.
In the video, Nas emphasizes, “The future is not something you wait for. It’s built by those who refuse to stand still,” reaffirming the commitment to Queens and its community.
Support from Local Officials
State Senator Joseph Addabbo, chairing the Committee on Gaming, Racing, and Wagering, noted the significant economic development potential linked to the downstate casino expansion, providing more job opportunities and entertainment options while addressing gambling issues responsibly. He expressed optimism about the integrity of the licensing process and shared his support for Resorts World due to their community involvement and disaster relief initiatives.
Ongoing Contributions to Education
Since its opening in 2011, Resorts World has contributed over $4.5 billion to New York’s public education system. The MTA is also expected to receive more than $41 billion from resources linked to Resorts World revenue and fees within five years of gaining a gaming license, expected to begin next year.
