Liverpool and Portugal player Diogo Jota has tragically died in a car accident on the A-52 road in Zamora, along with his 26-year-old brother. The accident occurred during the off-season as they were enjoying their time off. According to reports from Marca, Jota was driving with his brother Andre – who also played football for Penafiel – when the incident happened shortly after midnight on Thursday.
The Castilla y León emergency services received multiple calls regarding the accident. Upon arrival, responders found the vehicle on the road and engulfed in flames. The Traffic Civil Guard, Fire Brigade of the Provincial Council of Zamora, and the Emergency Coordination Centre were dispatched to the scene.

Emergency medical personnel confirmed both Jota and Andre’s deaths at the scene. A statement from the emergency services detailed: “Calls reported a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, with the car on fire.”
As per BBC Sport, it appears the accident was caused by a tyre blowout while the Lamborghini was attempting to overtake another vehicle, leading to the subsequent fire. This devastating news comes just weeks after Jota’s wedding to Rute Cardoso in Porto, where they shared joyful moments with their three children, captioning their wedding photos with, “June 22, 2025. Yes to forever.”
Jota made his move to Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, accumulating 182 appearances and securing a Premier League title. Over this period, the 28-year-old contributed 65 goals and 26 assists.
