Yuki Tsunoda’s difficulties in this year’s Red Bull have prompted Isack Hadjar, a potential replacement, to reflect on his own aspirations.
Like many Red Bull juniors, the French driver joined the program with the clear aim of racing for the top team alongside Max Verstappen. However, recent experiences have highlighted the significant challenges and potential career risks involved.
Although Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon managed to recover their careers after their stints alongside Verstappen, veteran driver Sergio Perez had to pause for at least one season.
Newcomer Liam Lawson faced challenges as well, experiencing two difficult race weekends before being replaced by Tsuno, who continues to struggle in a position considered one of the toughest in Formula 1.
Despite this, Hadjar, who has shown significant promise at the junior level, remains undeterred. He has made a notable impression with his speed and maturity as he transitions into F1, surprising even his team.
Hadjar stated, “When I signed with Red Bull four years ago, my goal was to reach the main team, and that hasn’t changed,” just ahead of the British Grand Prix. He acknowledged the pressure that comes with driving alongside Verstappen, who has a distinctive and highly sensitive driving style.
Realizing this is a mental and technical challenge, Hadjar believes he has the mental resilience to cope, though he admits he is yet to truly gauge his racing skills against a four-time world champion. As he continues to focus on his current responsibilities with the Racing Bulls, he remains committed to improving and refining his performance.
