Lando Norris triumphed in a tumultuous British Grand Prix on Sunday, skillfully handling a rain-affected race filled with safety car interruptions. He seized the opportunity when his teammate Oscar Piastri received a 10-second penalty after one of the safety cars left the track.
Norris didn’t take the lead until the closing laps of the race, remaining relatively inconspicuous for most of the event. Piastri was in command for much of the race until a sudden braking error led to his penalty.
With Piastri’s penalty in play, Norris was positioned to win, provided he could navigate the tricky weather conditions that caused several competitors to lose control and veer off the track.
Expressing his joy post-race, Norris shared, “It’s beautiful… Everything I have ever wanted to achieve.” He reflected on how his dream began by watching racers on TV many years ago.
By securing the victory, Norris narrowed the gap in the drivers’ championship, now just eight points behind Piastri, who finished in second place. Nico Hulkenberg of Kick Sauber took third, marking his first podium in his 239-race career, despite starting from 19th position.
The race was action-packed from the start, with drivers like George Russell and Charles Leclerc pitting before the official start. A collision involving Liam Lawson and Esteban Ocon resulted in a virtual safety car being deployed, setting the stage for an intense race amid challenging conditions.
