San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is anticipated to have a breakout performance in 2025. Following Deebo Samuel’s trade to the Washington Commanders and Brandon Aiyuk likely starting the upcoming season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, Pearsall is set to take on a much larger role. A former 49ers player sees promise in Pearsall, likening him to a notable breakout star from the NFC West.
Pearsall had a challenging rookie season, missing the first six games due to recovering from a gunshot wound received during a robbery attempt. Upon returning, the first-round pick gained momentum, finishing the season with 210 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his last two matches.
Brent Jones, a former tight end for the 49ers, believes this late-season performance marks just the start for Pearsall. He commented, “In his recent games, it was evident that things started to click for him,” highlighting Pearsall’s improved route running and increased confidence.
49ers Legend Brent Jones on Ricky Pearsall:
“Do not sleep on this guy. Maybe not the amount of catches, but I think he’s gonna be Puka Nacua-like at some point.”
Jones emphasized that Pearsall is poised to be a significant contributor in 2025 alongside Jauan Jennings, particularly in their Season Opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Pearsall will be a key target for quarterback Brock Purdy as the 49ers aim for better results following a disappointing 6-11 season.
Pearsall’s journey through adversity has left a lasting impression on Jones, who praised his development and determination. Observations from his rookie year showed glimpses of the potential the 49ers saw when drafting him.
Jones remarked, “I genuinely believe his burst is remarkable.” He noted that Pearsall is learning to create separation, which is crucial for maintaining a long-term position in the NFL. He expressed confidence that Pearsall has recognized what it takes to excel as a wide receiver and emphasized that fans should not underestimate his impact in the upcoming season.
