Josh Todd’s Unique Journey During the Pandemic
Josh Todd from BUCKCHERRY recently appeared on Side Jams With Bryan Reesman, where he shared his experiences of becoming a phlebotomist during the pandemic, taking up tennis and boxing, and pursuing online college courses in self, society, and the humanities.
A Memorable Encounter with Floyd Mayweather
During the interview, Todd recounted meeting his idol, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, in Las Vegas after Mayweather’s victory over Shane Mosley in 2010. Todd recalled, “I went there with my wife, her sister, and mother, but they weren’t interested in the boxing event. I went with a friend instead. The next morning, I went downstairs to check out at 6 a.m., and it felt like a ghost town. While walking through the lobby, I noticed two guys approaching, one of whom looked just like Floyd Mayweather. As they got closer, it turned out to be him. I told him how much I loved his performance the night before, and he gave me a hug. I was so stunned that I didn’t think to ask for a picture, but I met Floyd Mayweather that day!”
The Community at Boxing Events
When asked about his enjoyment of boxing events, Todd explained, “There are a lot of working-class people who genuinely love the sport. Everyone is friendly and approachable, including the celebrities around the ring. It’s a humble atmosphere with no egos, filled with camaraderie.”
Passion for Tennis
Besides boxing, Todd expressed his passion for tennis, stating that playing against various strangers while on tour helps him escape the music world. “Tennis allows me to focus only on the game, which is why I love it. I meet people from all walks of life, like dentists and teachers, which provides a refreshing break from being around musicians all the time,” he said.
Upcoming BUCKCHERRY Tour
In other news, BUCKCHERRY will kick off a headlining tour in fall 2025, supported by Michael Monroe of HANOI ROCKS. It starts on September 20 with a warm-up show in San Juan Capistrano, California, followed by Monroe joining the tour on September 21 at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood. The tour runs until October 25 in Ringle, Wisconsin, with nine additional BUCKCHERRY-only shows to follow. VIP meet-and-greet options will be available for fans.
Recent Album Releases
BUCKCHERRY’s latest album, “Roar Like Thunder,” was released on June 13. Like their previous albums, it was recorded in Nashville with producer Marti Frederiksen. All ten tracks were written by Todd, guitarist Stevie Dacanay, and Frederiksen. The album was released under various labels across North America, Japan, and the rest of the world.
Recent Holiday Music and Band Lineup Changes
This year, BUCKCHERRY also released a new holiday song titled “Tell ‘Em It’s Christmas,” following their previous holiday track “Christmas Is Here” from 2010. The band has experienced lineup changes, recently bringing in Billy Rowe from JETBOY as the new guitarist in 2020 and Francis Ruiz as the new drummer in 2019 to replace departing members.
