Denise Richards Secures Restraining Order Against Estranged Husband
Actress Denise Richards has obtained a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, after alleging instances of domestic violence and verbal abuse. During a court hearing, she presented evidence, including photographs showcasing a black eye she received.
Legal Action Filed
The 54-year-old actress filed for the restraining order on Wednesday in California’s Superior Court, and it was granted on the same day. This development follows Phypers’ petition for divorce, which he filed on July 7. The couple, who were married in September 2018, do not have children together.
Details of Abuse Allegations
In her filing, Richards detailed multiple incidents of abuse occurring from July 4 to July 14. She claimed that after informing Phypers his family needed to vacate their shared home, he became furious, shouting derogatory remarks and aggressively holding her arm.
Incidents of Violence
On July 5, Richards recounted an episode where Phypers confronted her at one of her townhouses, verbally attacking her. Later, she described finding him in the garage, where he allegedly grabbed her arms and forcefully pushed her to the ground, causing her injury. She also mentioned verbal threats from Phypers’s father, Stephen.
Threats and Past Incidents
Richards detailed her husband’s repeated threats, claiming he had said he would kill both himself and her. She stated that he possesses at least eight unregistered firearms. Additionally, she recounted an incident from May 21, where Phypers allegedly accessed her iCloud account and woke her up with insults before physically attacking her.
Filing and Court Orders
Richards’s application cited multiple instances of physical abuse, resulting in at least three concussions. She requested a no-contact order and sought the return of her personal belongings taken by Phypers. She expressed fear of his possible violent retaliation should she report his actions.
Responses and Background
The court mandated that Phypers maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from Richards, her residences, workplaces, and vehicles. A follow-up hearing is scheduled for August 8 to reassess the order. Following the allegations, Phypers publicly denied the claims, asserting that Richards was fabricating stories to preserve her image. Previously, the couple starred in a Bravo reality series about their family life.
