Diogo Dalot has expressed his sorrow over the passing of his friend and Portugal teammate, Diogo Jota.
The Liverpool forward tragically lost his life alongside his brother in a car accident in northern Spain while returning to Merseyside for pre-season training a month ago.
Dalot and Jota had shared numerous experiences on the pitch for Portugal, having recently celebrated a Nations League victory against Spain in Germany.
In the wake of the tragedy, Dalot joined Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and head coach Ruben Amorim to honor Jota at a memorial service held at Anfield.
Reflecting on his late friend, Dalot remarked on the outpouring of tributes, stating, “It hits you. I felt that everyone, even those who didn’t know him personally, felt it was a tragedy.” He emphasized the importance of remembrance through gestures like seeing Jota’s name on shirts during United’s tour in Chicago.
“He was a great man and a great teammate, always willing to put the team first. I will cherish the good memories,” Dalot added, hoping Jota has found peace.
