In early August 2025, a rumor emerged claiming that U.S. President Donald Trump had been caught cheating at golf for the second time within a week.
A post made on X attracted significant attention, garnering 3.4 million views. The content of this post referenced footage from August 2, the same day the White House declared Trump the winner of the ‘2025 Men’s Senior Club Championship’ at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf course.
The cheating accusations proliferated on platforms like X and Instagram, with users seeking more information about the allegations on Snopes’ website.
The video, captured from a distance, depicted a man in white dropping a golf ball onto the putting green while holding a flag, indicating he was Trump’s caddie. Trump was then observed moving the ball before appearing to drag it towards the hole with his club. A report from Meidas Touch indicated that the footage was recorded by a guest during the tournament on August 2.
This incident reportedly occurred just a week after another video showed Trump cheating at his Turnberry course in Scotland, where his caddie also dropped a ball for him, as confirmed by Snopes in late July.
However, the authenticity of the August video could not be verified due to a lack of accompanying photographs or videos from the tournament. Inquiries were made to the White House and the Trump Organization for images and statements regarding the allegations, but no responses were received by the time of this writing.
Importantly, USGA rules permit ball drops under specific conditions, but players must drop the ball from knee height, and caddies are prohibited from dropping it from hip level. Additionally, balls must be played as they lie, meaning they cannot be moved to a more convenient location before play. The video suggested that Trump may have violated several rules in a matter of seconds, inciting further outrage as the White House had just announced his victory in the tournament.
