Each summer, football analysts like Fabrizio Romano, Florian Plettenberg, and Gianluca Di Marzio proclaim that a single transfer could set off a ‘domino effect’. However, this rarely happens. Yet, we allow ourselves to hope it could be different this year.
This summer, the potential for a domino effect hinges not only on finding replacements but also on raising funds to secure top targets. This aspect is particularly significant this year.
Considering everything, we’ve made predictions about the striker market as the 2025 summer transfer window nears its end. Below are ten anticipated dominoes set to fall this month.
10) Benjamin Sesko to Newcastle United
The transfer that could start it all is Sesko to Newcastle United. The RB Leipzig forward was initially on Arsenal’s radar until they opted for Viktor Gyokeres, finding Leipzig’s asking price for Sesko too steep.
Reports suggest Leipzig is looking for a guaranteed £65 million, additional add-ons, and a percentage of any future sale. Newcastle thought an opening bid of £65m plus £4m in add-ons could be accepted, but David Ornstein stated it was considered insufficient. The Magpies must return with a better offer soon, or Manchester United may make a move.
9) Alexander Isak to Liverpool
If Sesko joins Newcastle, this could clear the path for Isak to realize his dream transfer to Anfield. Despite spending £263m this summer, Liverpool is in a strong financial position, having recently sold Luis Diaz for £65m and Jarell Quansah for £35m. Newcastle’s acquisition of Sesko doesn’t necessitate them selling Isak; they’re still keen on adding another striker.
Isak has not been part of Newcastle’s pre-season tour and has created tension with supporters through his push to join Liverpool. While opinions differ among fans, it seems inevitable that Isak will eventually make his move to Liverpool.
8) Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal
Liverpool is intent on offloading Nunez, with clubs in Italy rumored to be interested. However, it appears he may be heading to the Middle East now. If sold before Isak joins, Liverpool could be better positioned to pay a record fee for him. Regardless, Nunez seems destined to exit regardless of Isak’s arrival.
