PLYMOUTH, Michigan – The 2025 LIV Golf Team Championship in Michigan is set to introduce new format changes that will increase the intensity of the competition and provide fans with opportunities to watch top players compete over the weekend.
Scheduled from August 22-24 at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth, Michigan, the event will include a Wednesday play-in match among the two lowest-seeded teams, eliminating first-round byes for top seeds. This year, all 48 players from 12 teams will participate in two days of match play on Friday and Saturday, culminating in a stroke-play finale on Sunday, allowing more chances to witness exciting matches as teams vie for the ultimate season title. Additionally, team captains of higher-seeded groups will now get to view their opponent’s lineups before finalizing their own.
Cameron Smith, captain of the 2024 LIV Golf Team Champion Ripper GC, remarked, “I believe some unexpected teams may face early eliminations.”
Also highlighting the pressure of the new format, Crushers GC Captain Bryson DeChambeau stated, “Every day will carry more significance.”
Ross Hallett, LIV Golf Executive Vice President and Head of Events, stated, “This updated format aligns with our goal to continuously enhance the competition and fans’ experience, creating an exciting event. Fans can expect more action from top teams while holding players accountable from the outset as we aim for a global team champion. We are excited to deliver a memorable championship event filled with competitive spirit, top-notch concerts, and activities for families.”
