Players Poised for Success
Bangladesh’s assistant coach, Mohammad Salahuddin, is optimistic about the potential of openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon. Both players have a proven track record from their under-19 days, contributing significantly to Bangladesh’s unique ICC U-19 World Cup victory.
Upcoming Challenges
With Bangladesh preparing for a brief T20I series against the Netherlands, which serves as a lead-up to the Asia Cup, the spotlight is on these two left-handers. They have established themselves as reliable top-order batsmen in limited-overs cricket, eager to adopt an aggressive style that could help set a solid foundation for their team.
Insights from Salahuddin
In an interview with Cricbuzz, Salahuddin emphasized the growing understanding of the game among these young players. He noted that his objective upon joining the team was to identify critical issues following the departure of senior players and to develop a strong opening partnership.
Openers and Team Strategy
Salahuddin expressed that if the openers perform well, it could significantly enhance the team’s chances. He believes that instead of making all changes at once, gradual adjustments are more beneficial. He pointed out that Emon and Tamim’s shared experience from under-19 cricket, including their World Cup triumph, empowers them to play without fear and take calculated risks.
Building a Competitive ODI Squad
While acknowledging that the Test and T20I teams are relatively settled and players are familiar with their roles, Salahuddin pointed out that the ODI lineup still requires strategic development. He highlighted the importance of experience in the middle order, especially since past stalwarts like Shakib and Mushfiqur have transitioned out. New players need time to adapt, and once they grasp their roles, the team is likely to perform better.
Upcoming Training Schedule
The team will commence skill training at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on August 15 after their fitness camp, before moving to Sylhet for the T20I series set to begin on August 30.
