Final Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp Practice
Wednesday marked the 18th and last training camp practice for the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the upcoming 2025 NFL season. The non-padded session lasted approximately 80 minutes. Here are my observations from the NovaCare Complex.
Jalen Hurts Shines at Practice
Overall, Jalen Hurts has had a mixed training camp, but he concluded on a strong note, delivering his best performance of the summer. Remarkably, this came even without key players like A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jordan Mailata, and Landon Dickerson.
Impressive Performance by Hurts
This version of Hurts resembled the player seen during spring practices and early training camp. He threw just one incompletion, marking five touchdown passes during the session:
- Found A.J. Dillon in the flat for a catch-and-run score.
- Connected with Darius Cooper for a short touchdown in the end zone.
- Hit Ainias Smith on another short route to the right for a touchdown.
- Lofted a pass to Grant Calcaterra for an over-the-shoulder catch in the end zone.
- Delivered a pass to Jahan Dotson for a short touchdown over defenders.
Highlights and Training Camp Vibes
Hurts’ standout throw was a tight fit between Jihaad Campbell and Quinyon Mitchell, allowing Darius Cooper to make a leaping catch for a first down. The atmosphere at training camp has mostly been positive, though recent struggles against the Cleveland Browns, injury concerns, and position battles have created some challenges. While Hurts’ performance doesn’t resolve all issues, it’s a hopeful sign.
Injuries and Their Impact
The injury report includes key players:
- A.J. Brown (hamstring)
- Tariq Castro-Fields (hamstring)
- Lewis Cine (groin)
- Landon Dickerson (knee)
- Jordan Mailata (concussion)
- Tanner McKee (finger)
- Andrew Mukuba (hamstring)
- Kelee Ringo (quad)
- DeVonta Smith (groin)
- Joshua Uche (groin)
- Johnny Wilson (knee/ankle)
Notably, Dickerson has missed six consecutive practices, while Brown has been sidelined for five.
Rookie Highlights
Darius Cooper has stood out as an undrafted rookie, impressing throughout camp. His one-handed catch in drills, sensational grabs during team practice, and scoring a touchdown against Adoree’ Jackson have garnered attention. Cooper appears to have earned Hurts’ trust, positioning him as a potential offensive contributor this season.
Linebacker and Cornerback Updates
Jihaad Campbell seems to have overtaken Jeremiah Trotter Jr. as a starting linebacker. Meanwhile, Adoree’ Jackson continues to lead the cornerback depth chart, although he’s faced challenges in coverage. The Eagles will soon need to make roster cuts, trimming down to 53 players by 4:00 PM Eastern on Tuesday, August 26.
