Abhinav Manohar’s Struggles and Comeback Plans

For Abhinav Manohar, the off-season was supposed to be a chance to recuperate. After a tough IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, he anticipated a brief holiday before focusing on the domestic circuit, starting with the Maharaja Trophy T20 in August. However, he was sidelined with jaundice and later a viral fever, which caused him to lose significant physical strength.
“I wanted a holiday, but I couldn’t travel due to illness,” the 30-year-old Karnataka cricketer shared in a conversation with Cricbuzz, expressing the emotional weight of his situation. “I stayed home, trying to get better, and ended up losing a lot of muscle. I look different now, as seen on TV.”
The timing was unfortunate. Following a season lacking in performance with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where Manohar couldn’t establish his rhythm in a competitive batting line-up, he yearned for time on the field instead of being confined at home, testing his patience and resolve.
“Dealing with back-to-back illnesses has impacted my body, but that happens in sports. I’m now focused on getting fit and healthy,” he commented, reflecting his pragmatic viewpoint on the ups and downs of a cricket career.
Manohar’s journey has required ample resilience. Just three years prior, he was relatively unknown outside Karnataka cricket circles until he received a life-changing call about his debut. His performance during that debut match, scoring an unbeaten 70, showcased his potential and led to his recruitment by the Gujarat Titans.
As he aims to rebuild following his illness and a challenging IPL season, Manohar sees the current Maharaja Trophy as an opportunity to regain confidence. He aspires to transition into red-ball cricket as well, expressing his determination to improve with a clear focus on both short-term and long-term goals in his career.
