Former featherweight title contender Diego Lopes aims to return to victory against Jean Silva in the main event at Noche UFC this Saturday at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio (6 p.m. ET, prelims start at 3 p.m. on ESPN+).
Lopes, currently ranked No. 3 in the featherweight division by ESPN, suffered a defeat to Alexander Volkanovski during a contest for the vacant championship in his last Octagon appearance. Prior to that, Lopes had enjoyed a five-fight winning streak.
Silva remains undefeated in the UFC, with each of his previous five opponents finished (four by knockout, one via submission).
ESPN’s MMA analysts and commentators share their forecasts for the main event, while ESPN betting expert Ian Parker offers insights on the best betting opportunities available on the card.
Featherweight Main Event
Silva’s takedown defense has proven strong, and he managed to submit the skilled black belt Bryce Mitchell in his last match. Lopes, while not particularly known for his grappling and prone to being hit, is up against a fighter whose striking accuracy sets him apart. Despite Silva’s playful style, he possesses serious technical skills and power, making him a formidable opponent. Thus, I predict Silva not only wins this encounter but also continues to ascend in the division. — Anthony Smith
It’s challenging to bet against Silva. Lopes tends to absorb too many strikes, while Silva’s precision is exceptional. I doubt Silva will knock Lopes out because of Lopes’ toughness, but if necessary, Lopes might shift to grappling to avoid a knockout. — Din Thomas
