Scottie Scheffler Shines at Procore Championship
NAPA, Calif. (AP) — What began as a Ryder Cup training camp for the American team turned into a successful week for Scottie Scheffler.
As he aimed to maintain his competitive edge ahead of the Ryder Cup matches set for September 26-28 at Bethpage Black, the world’s top-ranked player showcased his skill by finishing with a 5-under 67, securing a one-shot victory over Ben Griffin at the Procore Championship.
This victory marked Scheffler’s sixth title on the PGA Tour this year, placing him alongside golf legends such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer as one of the few players since 1960 to achieve six wins in consecutive seasons.
“It was a week where I tackled a new and challenging golf course,” Scheffler remarked. “I did well to stay competitive in the first two rounds and performed admirably in the final rounds to clinch the win.”
Over the weekend, Scheffler overcame an eight-shot deficit with stellar rounds of 64 and 67, finishing at a total of 19-under 269. This win increased his season earnings to more than $27.6 million.
Silverado showcased its strongest field and largest crowd since moving to Napa in 2014, providing an exciting showdown between Scheffler and Griffin, who was just a putt away from victory.
Griffin, who has two wins this year and is set to make his Ryder Cup debut, faced pressure on the final hole, leaving a crucial eagle putt short and ultimately finishing with a score of 70.
