The draw for the China Open, the ninth WTA 1000 event of 2025, has been released. Iga Swiatek, who recently claimed her third title of the year in Seoul, is the top seed. Defending champion Coco Gauff is the second seed. A notable highlight is the return of local favorite Zheng Qinwen, competing for the first time since undergoing right elbow surgery in July.
Beijing: Scores | Draws | Order of Play
Zheng, seeded seventh, has not competed since her first-round exit at Wimbledon against Katerina Siniakova. She will face either Suzan Lamens, a quarterfinalist in Seoul last week, or compatriot Wang Yafan in her opening match. The competition intensifies as she is projected to encounter No. 26 seed Linda Noskova in the third round, with potential fourth-round challenges against No. 10 seed Clara Tauson, Montreal champion No. 21 seed Victoria Mboko, and Siniakova.
All 32 seeded players receive first-round byes. Swiatek will begin against either Yulia Putintseva or wild card Yuan Yue, while Gauff will play either Kamilla Rakhimova or Lucia Bronzetti in her first match.
Among the unseeded threats, two former major champions are making comebacks from injuries. Barbora Krejcikova faces Anna Blinkova in her opening match, with the winner to take on No. 9 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, who was a finalist in Seoul. Bianca Andreescu, returning from an ankle injury sustained in Montreal, will face Magda Linette, with No. 24 seed Veronika Kudermetova waiting for the winner.
In the latest withdrawals, Australian Open champion Madison Keys and US Open champion Aryna Sabalenka will miss the tournament due to injuries.
