Team USA to Compete at Melee Gala X in Canada
Team USA is set to participate in the Melee Gala X in Winnipeg, Canada, this weekend. USA Boxing is thrilled to send six promising boxers to engage in an intense competition against Canadian athletes, giving them vital international experience.
Event Details
The competition will take place on September 27 at 8 p.m. ET, featuring a lineup of four male and two female boxers, guided by National Youth & Junior Coach Edward Fonteneaux and Elite High Performance assistant coach Eric Zimmerman.
Women’s Boxing Lineup
Noelle Haro from Austin, Texas, will make her international debut against Canada’s Jade Delgado in the 51 kg weight division. Haro enters this match with five consecutive wins, including three national titles. Her opponent, Delgado, is fresh off a loss at the U23 Canadian National Championships, but she’s regarded as one of Canada’s top talents from the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships.
Marie-Angelis Rosendo’s Challenge
Marie-Angelis Rosendo of Deland, Florida, aims to rebound after a silver medal finish at the 2025 World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem. She will compete against Simran Takhar from Canada in the 60 kg class. Takhar recently won at the U23 Canadian National Championships and is stepping up to the international stage.
Men’s Boxing Representatives
On the men’s side, Marcellus Smith from Cleveland, Ohio, will represent Team USA after his victory at the 2024 USA Boxing National Championships. He makes his international debut against Canada’s Karan Sembhi, who has previously competed at the 2023 Pan American Championships and the International Boxing Independence Cup.
Additional Competitors
Salim Ellis-Bey of Philadelphia returns to the international arena after a successful gold medal run at the 2025 Brandenburg Cup. Competing in the 60 kg weight class, he will face Aayan Khokhar, a competitor with a winning streak of six bouts. Marcus Luther from Washington, D.C., will also make his debut in the 65 kg category against Gabriel Aly Ndiaye, holding a winning record of ten consecutive bouts.
Joseph Awinongya’s Third International Appearance
Finally, Joseph Awinongya will participate in his third international contest at just 18 years old. Awinongya, who has secured two gold medals from the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships and the 2025 Brandenburg Cup, will take on Umar Carcamo in the 80 kg weight class. Carcamo has recently won 15 of his last 16 matches.
