The final round of the casino competition is approaching.
For those who might not be keeping up with the developments, here’s the latest update:
The community advisory committees (CACs) have completed their voting on seven out of eight casino proposals. The final vote by the CAC is scheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m.
The CACs have given a green light to three projects, which will now proceed to the state’s Gaming Facility Location Board for further evaluation:
Four proposals have been rejected by the committees:
- Freedom Plaza by Soloviev Group, Mohegan Tribe, and Banyan Group
- Avenir by Silverstein Properties, Rush Street Gaming, and Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment
- Caesar Palace Times Square by SL Green Realty, Caesars Entertainment, Roc Nation, and Live Nation
- The Coney by Thor Equities, Saratoga Casinos, and the Chickasaw Nation
On Tuesday morning, a CAC will vote on Steve Cohen’s Metropolitan Park proposal, which seems to have a favorable outlook, especially as Borough President Donovan Richards supports it. Metropolitan Park aims to transform 50 acres of parking lots adjacent to Citi Field into a massive $8 billion casino complex, featuring a Hard Rock hotel, a 5,650-person live music venue, dining options, and 25 acres of green space.
By the year’s end, the state board is expected to announce which teams will receive a casino license.
