Rodeo Dunes: A Dream Golf Course in Colorado

ROGGEN — While the context may differ, the sentiment behind the phrase “If you build it, they will come” resonates deeply with the development of the Rodeo Dunes golf resort in rural Colorado, located northeast of Denver. Inspired by the iconic baseball film *Field of Dreams*, the creators envision attracting golf enthusiasts from near and far to this new golfing haven.
The inaugural 18-hole course at Rodeo Dunes, influenced by prairie links courses like Ballyneal and Sand Hills, recently held a preview event, “The First Ride.” This occasion invited select guests to experience the course ahead of its gradual opening over the next year and a half. Additionally, the event featured a professional rodeo known as the Duel at the Dunes.
Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, the first course will be exclusively for walking and is slated for a “preview season” in 2026—primarily catering to founders, media, and industry personnel. Public access is anticipated to begin in 2027, with plans to start booking tee times in March 2026. “We’re going to ease the course into operation,” stated Tom Ferrell, vice president of media and communications for Dream Golf.
The course and a second one designed by Jim Craig will be fully accessible to the public, with Ferrell noting that any future private courses will also allow some public access. Rodeo Dunes aims to offer a convenient golfing experience for Colorado residents, being only 50 miles from Denver; a notable accessibility improvement compared to other prairie courses requiring extensive travel.
Over the last seven years, the Keiser family, known for creating golf resorts like the Bandon Resort in Oregon and Sand Valley in Wisconsin, has spearheaded this project. “This has been an incredible seven years,” said Michael Keiser, the project’s owner and developer, during a recent gathering at the resort.
Set on expansive prairie landscapes managed by the Cervi family since 1883, Rodeo Dunes is characterized by its sandy terrain and minimal trees. Collaborating with the Cervis, the Keisers focus on preserving the land while creating a golf experience that complements the historical ranching roots. The project has garnered support from 250 founders who contributed substantial deposits to cement the foundation of this golfing vision.
As development progresses, the golf course’s unique features, including its bunkers and elevation variations, promise a distinctive and enjoyable golfing experience. With the current scorecard indicating a par-72 layout, the course caters to various skill levels while encouraging players to walk the course. With ongoing efforts to make Rodeo Dunes a prominent golf destination, a bright future awaits both local and international golfing enthusiasts.
