Kindred Vikings Lead in State Golf Tournament
SOUTH HEART, N.D. — The Kindred Vikings gradually climbed to the top of the leaderboard during the North Dakota Class B girls golf state tournament.
Comprised entirely of sophomores, the Vikings posted a score of 28-over 316 in the first round at Pheasant Country Golf Course on Monday. Lauren Mueller was the standout player for Kindred, finishing with a 3-over 75, securing a tie for second place.
Despite starting with five bogeys on her first nine holes, Mueller made a strong comeback with birdies on three holes in her second nine. Teammate Bailey Theuninck followed closely, scoring a 4-over 76 and sitting in fourth place. Reagan Lorz and Kaylin Goldsmith rounded out the Kindred scoring with 10-over 82 and 11-over 83, respectively.
Other Top Competitors
Müller is tied with Hudsyn Hubrig of Wyndmere-Lidgerwood-Hankinson for second place. Hubrig, who began her round on the second hole, recorded an impressive six birdies throughout her round, including three in a row from holes 15 to 17.
Leading the individual standings is Laila Christianson, a junior from Des Lacs-Burlington, who scored a remarkable 1-under 71. Christianson was 3-under at the turn but had two bogeys on the final nine holes.
Team Rankings
After Kindred, Heart River is in second place with a total score of 30-over 318. Three-time defending champions Oak Grove are in third at 39-over 327. Following them are Des Lacs-Burlington in fourth at 43-over 331 and Kenmare-Bowbells at fifth with 59-over 350.
Heart River’s Ellee Rybchinski and Laura Sitter both finished with a score of 5-over 77, tying for fifth. Taylor Karsky of Heart River placed seventh at 6-over 78, while other noteworthy mentions include Megan Robb, McKenna Mau, and Ella Pearson, who all tied for eighth with 7-over 79s.
