CHARLOTTE — As the offseason approached, head coach Hubert Davisrecognized a need for change.
Last season was undeniably a letdown; making the tournament as one of the last four teams fell short of expectations.
To address this, the Tar Heels entirely overhauled their roster, adding ten new players, marking a significant shift from the previous season.
“I embrace it,” senior guard Seth Trimble expressed. “I get to form new bonds and a fresh sense of brotherhood with this new group.”
Increased Size
The absence of frontcourt size was evident last season, contributing to a lack of team cohesion.
Last season, the Tar Heels occasionally used four-guard lineups, placing 6-foot-3 Trimble at power forward, but that won’t be the case this year.
Improved Spacing
The team’s three-point shooting struggled last year, ranking 179th in attempts per game and 79th in percentage.
This season, improvements are expected. The inclusion of new players emphasizes perimeter shooting. Junior guard Kyan Evans, a top shooter from his previous team, brings skills that should enhance the team’s long-range game.
Uncertainty in Scoring
When asked about a go-to scoring option, Davis was unable to provide a clear answer, indicating uncertainty as the season begins.
The absence of RJ Davis leaves a major question regarding primary scoring roles, with several players capable of scoring but lacking experience in high-pressure situations.
