Cape Coral Country Club Owner Frustrated by E-Bike Damage
CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The owner of Palmetto Pines Country Club is expressing frustration over the ongoing problem of kids riding electric bikes on his golf course, which is resulting in damage to the greens.
Owner Gerry Karlen articulated his concerns, stating, “I’ve renovated this place and spent millions of dollars, and it’s very frustrating. The greens cost $100,000, and they treat it like it’s their BMX park.” This persistent issue has significantly affected the club’s aesthetic and maintenance.
Karlen also mentioned that some of these kids have been riding through nearby homes, causing further disturbances. This has alarmed community members and raised concerns over safety and property integrity.
Support from club members has poured in for Karlen, who has made extensive renovations to improve the club’s facilities. “My membership is just up in arms because they see everything that I’ve done to make this place nice, and these kids just come out and destroy it,” he expressed.
Despite filing numerous police reports about the vandalism, Karlen has been informed that no arrests can occur unless officers catch the kids in the act. This has left him feeling helpless in addressing the issue.
In response to the ongoing vandalism, Karlen has taken additional measures, including hiring security to monitor the golf course in hopes of deterring the offenders from returning.
