Pelicans Return to Birmingham for Preseason Game
The New Orleans Pelicans are set to play an NBA preseason game in Birmingham for the third time in four years, marking another homecoming for Herb Jones.

Jones, who excelled at Hale County High School and the University of Alabama, was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

The Pelicans will face off against the Houston Rockets at 7 p.m. CDT on Tuesday at the Legacy Arena within the BJCC.

Accolades and Achievements
During the 2016-17 season, Jones won the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A Player of the Year Award, leading Hale County to the AHSAA championship. He finished his college career as the SEC Player of the Year as well as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year for the 2020-21 season.

Exciting Talent
This year, Jones is not the only former Alabama high school star participating; Houston’s JD Davison was awarded Alabama’s Mr. Basketball for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, leading his team to the AHSAA Class 2A championships.
