Coco Gauff is currently facing challenges with her serve but is noticing improvements.
This season, Gauff has recorded 405 double faults, the highest among all players on the WTA Tour. To address this issue, she has enlisted the help of coach Gavin MacMillan.
MacMillan joined Gauff’s team just before the US Open, and she has received positive feedback for making this change. Although Gauff exited in the round of 16 at her home Grand Slam, she subsequently celebrated victory at the Wuhan Open and made it to the semifinals of the China Open.
Looking ahead, Gauff is set to compete at the WTA Finals in Riyadh next month, a tournament she won in the past, despite her serving difficulties.
Gauff has been candid about her serving problems, discussing them with MacMillan, a biomechanics expert who previously worked with Aryna Sabalenka. She acknowledged the pressure and expectations related to her serve and has expressed confidence in the progress she’s making through logical adjustments.
Reflecting on her US Open experience, Gauff admitted she felt the weight of expectations due to coaching changes and her serve’s scrutiny. While she faced disappointment losing to Naomi Osaka, she believes that overcoming such challenges only makes her stronger for the future.
At just 21 years old, Gauff has managed significant pressure, especially following her French Open win and increased hopes from American fans for more success in tennis. Despite everything, she has navigated through these pressures admirably and has an exciting career ahead filled with the potential for more Grand Slam titles.
