Carolina Transfers in Action
In the chaotic landscape of college basketball, where transfers have become prevalent, 11 former Tar Heels are set to begin new seasons at different institutions—seven from the men’s team and four from the women’s team. Notably, two players who previously played together at Carolina are reuniting in the SEC.
Upcoming Showdown
This Saturday, Elliot Cadeau, who transferred to Michigan, will face off against Ian Jackson, now at St. John’s, in a much-anticipated exhibition at Madison Square Garden at 7 p.m. (Big Ten Network Plus). This marks a chance for them to reconnect on the court.
Player Performances
In Cadeau’s exhibition debut, he contributed 14 points in a 100–88 home loss to Cincinnati. He recorded one field goal, went 12 of 15 from the free-throw line, and added seven assists and five rebounds, before fouling out late in the game. Meanwhile, Jackson scored six points in 17 minutes during St. John’s 74–63 victory over Towson.
High Expectations
Jackson, named to the Big East Preseason Second Team, is optimistic despite the added pressure of returning to his home area. He stated, “I don’t really think pressure is an issue. I kind of accept pressure.”
Other Notable Transfers
Ven-Allen Lubin is now with N.C. State, marking his fourth school in four seasons. He and Paulina Paris, also a transfer facing UNC, are among this year’s movers. Paris has transitioned from Carolina to Arizona, and now to SMU under head coach Adia Barnes.
Season Kicks Off
Lubin is set to debut as a starter against South Carolina on Sunday. Additionally, Cade Tyson impressed during his exhibition debut for Minnesota, scoring 29 points in a victory over North Dakota State. Other former Tar Heels like Jalen Washington and Tyler Nickel are expected to start at Vanderbilt, solidifying their roles with their new teams.
A New Chapter
Each of these players reflects a trend of movement in college basketball as they adjust to new environments and expectations. They continue to carry the Tar Heel legacy forward while making their mark at new institutions.
