CLEVELAND, Ohio – Before delving deeper into the Cavs’ situation, I’m going to reflect on the wisdom of Lenny Wilkens.
Wilkens would likely see the progress made in the Cavs’ last three games amid a challenging season. The offense has improved, and Darius Garland seems to be regaining his health following wins against Charlotte (139-132) and New Orleans (141-118).
The defeat to New York (126-124) was a letdown, especially as the Cavs squandered a significant 17-point lead in the fourth quarter. We’ll discuss that later.
Amidst a slew of injuries, Wilkens would understand that players returning may not be at full strength immediately and would stress the need for the team to find its rhythm.
Cavs’ coach Kenny Atkinson adopted a similar perspective following the Knicks’ loss.
He emphasized “rebounding” as a crucial issue during his postgame remarks, calling it “the eternal question” that requires addressing.
While he acknowledged the setbacks, he expressed optimism about returning players. “You feel a little more stable,” Atkinson noted, feeling that the right pieces are starting to align.
