While we can’t cover everything in one piece, be sure to check out the MLB milestones of 2025 and look forward to a remarkable stat from each team on New Year’s Eve.
Highlights of 2025
In another impressive showing, the Dodgers staged a comeback to secure the World Series in Game 7. This marks the 10th instance of a team overcoming a three-run deficit in a World Series clinching game, with their five-run comeback in Game 5 of 2024 being the largest in recent history. Now, they have managed back-to-back comebacks in World Series clinchers after no team had done so since 1986.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto earned the World Series MVP by delivering a complete game in Game 2, pitching six innings in Game 6, and finishing Game 7 with 2 2/3 innings. He made history as the first pitcher to win three games in a single World Series since Randy Johnson in 2001, achieving all victories on the road.
Players Rising to the Top
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. shone for the Blue Jays this postseason, batting .397 and hitting eight home runs, the second-most in a single postseason. His teammate, Ernie Clement set a postseason hits record with 30, while Guerrero’s 29 hits tied for the second-most in a postseason run.
Rookie Trey Yesavage made waves with his debut in September and quickly rose to prominence in the playoffs, striking out 11 in his first playoff game and 12 in World Series Game 5. He is now the only rookie in MLB history with multiple postseason games featuring at least 10 strikeouts.
Exceptional Performances
Shohei Ohtani elevated his game this season, making headlines with his outstanding performance in NLCS Game 4. He became the first pitcher to hit a leadoff home run in any MLB game, launching three homers in total while allowing only two hits and striking out 10 batters.
The Guardians orchestrated a stunning comeback, overcoming a 15 1/2 game deficit in July to win the AL Central, marking the largest comeback in division history. Notably, the season saw all six divisions witness a leader of at least a 5.5-game lead fall out of first place after that lead.
