Overlooking Seaview Resort’s Bay Course
The first tee box at Seaview Resort’s Bay Course provides a breathtaking downhill view of the course, Reeds Bay to its east, and the barrier islands off South Jersey.
Stacy Lewis’s Early Morning Start
Stacy Lewis took in these views just before her 7:30 a.m. tee time on June 8, alongside fellow Texan Gurleen Kaur at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Having barely made the tournament cut, Lewis was eager to improve her two-under total from the previous rounds.
Challenges on the Course
However, her first tee shot added pressure to her round as it veered into the left rough, tangled in high fescue and weeds. Fortunately, her provisional ball landed safely in the right fairway. A thorough search for her first ball proved fruitless, leading Lewis to hit her fourth shot from 108 yards out, which comfortably landed 30 feet from the hole.
A Steady Performance
Lewis’s solid putt rolled over a ridge and sank into the cup, allowing her a surprising bogey save. With a small smile, she moved to the second tee for a 420-yard par four. After her second shot fell short, she managed to pitch it to about 6 feet for her next stroke, securing a routine bogey to bring her score back to even.
Mixed Results Throughout the Round
As she played on, Lewis maintained a par score for only brief stretches. She birdied the par five third hole but showed visible signs of frustration with a mishap on her chip for the fourth hole, resulting in another bogey. Though she parred the fifth, she followed it with a birdie on the challenging sixth, only to drop another shot on the seventh.
Final Holes
After steady play through the eighth to thirteenth holes, she stumbled again on the par four fourteenth. Her second shot landed 40 yards short, and after a nine-foot approach, she needed two putts to finish. However, she redeemed herself with two impressive long putts to save par on the uphill fifteenth and secured solid pars on the sixteenth and seventeenth as well.
Reflecting on a Distinguished Career
On the par five eighteenth, Lewis hit her second shot onto the green, about 30 feet from the hole, and made her final birdie from two feet, exiting with applause from the crowd. She ended the week tied for 63rd, earning $4,179. Throughout her career, Lewis has enjoyed greater success at the ShopRite, with two championships in 2012 and 2014, contributing to her impressive career earnings of $14.7 million, including $573,450 from this event alone.
