Keegan Bradley Under Fire for AimPoint Technique
Keegan Bradley, an 8-time PGA Tour champion, is no stranger to the spotlight. After wins at the Travelers Championship, being appointed Ryder Cup captain, and victories in Skins Games, he has often been in the limelight. However, this time he faces scrutiny for his AimPoint putting method, which has drawn criticism previously.
Rick Golfs recently posted on X, expressing discontent by stating, “I may bring up AimPoint too frequently, but this is extreme! It’s one thing to see a player using it, but to have both player and caddie involved is excessive. Is this really beneficial for golf?” The post included a clip of Bradley and his caddie employing AimPoint during the 2026 Sony Open in Hawaii. While Bradley is an advocate for the technique, he’s not alone, as many, including Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Lydia Ko, and Rose Zhang, also support it. Bradley credited the technique for his success at the 2023 Travelers Championship.
“AimPoint helps my putting, particularly on bentgrass,” said Bradley, emphasizing his commitment to the technique. Despite its popularity among professionals, AimPoint remains a point of contention. Clips of Bradley utilizing the method have stirred significant backlash. For instance, he took over a minute for a 4-foot putt at the 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic, and similar timing issues arose during the 2025 Tour Championship and at the 2022 WGC-Match Play.
Another incident at the 2025 Hero World Challenge led fans to call for the banning of the technique. A clip showing him taking 39 seconds for a short putt prompted calls for action, with many asserting that it slows down the game.
Bradley’s latest use of AimPoint, alongside his caddie, has attracted similarly negative reactions. Comments like “Ban AimPoint, that’s it,” and “I’ve reached a point where I root against players using this method” illustrate fans’ mounting frustration. Additionally, golf analysts and professionals have echoed these concerns, with Lucas Glover notably criticizing the method’s impact on gameplay speed.
Keegan Bradley’s Putting Evolution
Despite the ongoing debate, one question remains: has AimPoint improved Keegan Bradley’s putting skills? Historically, he struggled with putting consistency, often ranking low in Strokes Gained: Putting. However, his switch to using an Odyssey Jailbird mallet along with the AimPoint technique began to show gradual improvements from the 2021–2022 season onward, culminating in a rank of 20th in Strokes Gained: Putting during the 2022-2023 season.
Yet, after peaking, his putting performance has faltered again, dropping to the 125th ranking in the 2024 season before slightly improving to 114th in 2025. As Bradley continues to face criticism for his putting method, the results indicate a pivotal change in his performance, raising the question of whether he can replicate his earlier success.
