Robert Forgione inquires: Is Jaxson planning to work with Jordan Palmer or any other QB coaches this offseason? Is this decision team-recommended or solely up to the player?
Ed responds: Robert, Jaxson Dart has been collaborating with coaches from 3DQB for a few years. At the season’s end, he mentioned that part of his offseason will again involve this training.
John Brazel asks: As a lifelong Giants fan, the past 14 years have been tough. However, this year’s performance fills me with optimism. Despite underwhelming defense, the offense showed promise. If we’d secured a few wins against Dallas, Denver, and others, we could have ended 8-9 rather than 4-13. How would perceptions have shifted then? I believe Schoen has significantly improved the roster. Thus, my question:
Given the mock drafts linking us to WRs, what are your thoughts on selecting Arvell Reece at 5? We need a strong middle defense player, someone effective sideline-to-sideline. This would bolster our run defense and transform the team.
Ed answers: John, while I acknowledge Arvell Reese’s talent, I don’t advocate for the Giants to draft him. To me, Reese represents the kind of player like Micah Parsons—impactful but best suited as an edge defender, which the Giants already have with Burns and Thibodeaux. Drafting him could lead to a situation where one player is not utilized to their full potential.
Additionally, I’m uncertain about targeting a WR like Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson. It wouldn’t be wise to draft players for positions we are already well-stocked in. Focus on filling gaps instead.
Raymond Dansereau wonders: Teams claim they’re casting a wide net during head coach searches. Could this be linked to the Rooney Rule, requiring interviews with minority coaches, making searches more extensive and inefficient? Is this an unintended consequence of the rule?
Ed states: Raymond, I don’t think the phrase “casting a wide net” directly relates to the Rooney Rule. However, the rule’s requirement for in-person interviews after the playoffs does slow down the hiring process. I see this as beneficial, as it encourages teams to broaden their candidate pool.
