Background and Family Ties
FRISCO, Texas — Although he was raised in California, his family’s roots run deep in Youngstown, Ohio. He is also a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns.
Desire to Join the Steelers
However, it would mean a great deal to him if the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Alabama cornerback Domani Jackson (6005, 192). Jackson expressed that wearing the Black and Gold would create a full-circle moment for him and his family, especially in honor of his late grandfather.
Legacy of His Grandfather
Jackson’s grandfather passed away when he was in the 8th grade, prior to Jackson becoming one of the most sought-after players in high school football. Among the items he left Jackon was a Steelers pin, which holds significant sentimental value for him.
Transitioning Through College
On the brink of an NFL career after two seasons with both USC and Alabama, Jackson hopes to hear his name called in Pittsburgh during the April draft. Having played 46 career games, he would be delighted to continue his journey in the Steel City.
Growing Up and Evolving
Growing up in California as the child of a U.S. Marine veteran, Jackson had a remarkable run at Mater Dei, becoming a 5-star recruit committed to play for Nick Saban at Alabama. However, a change led him to the Trojans, and after two years, he transferred back to Alabama, not only for football but also for personal growth.
Improving On and Off the Field
During his time with the Crimson Tide, Jackson achieved significant stats, including 91 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 12 pass breakups. He also learned to prepare diligently and mature as a player, although he received feedback about his consistency from teams like the New York Jets during Shrine Bowl discussions.
Future Aspirations
In addition to working on his skills, he aims to develop his game by studying New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez. Despite limited production in his career, he remembers his one interception against Georgia as a standout moment, showcasing his ability to adapt and seize opportunities. He hopes to replicate this as he approaches a potential NFL career, ideally with the Pittsburgh Steelers, to honor his grandfather’s legacy.
