Knicks Secure Close Win Against 76ers
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jalen Brunson led the New York Knicks with 31 points, while OG Anunoby contributed 23, as the team followed up their largest franchise victory with a narrow 112-109 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday.
After dominating the Nets 120-66, the Knicks faced a tougher challenge but managed a strong 30-point third quarter that marked their first win against the 76ers this season out of three attempts.
Joel Embiid had an impressive performance with 38 points and 11 rebounds but turned the ball over during the game’s final moments. Tyrese Maxey scored 22 points for Philadelphia but missed a late three-pointer from near halfcourt, attempting to anticipate an intentional foul that did not occur.
As the 76ers drew within two points towards the end, Anunoby and Landry Shamet hit consecutive three-pointers to secure the Knicks’ win and prevent a last-minute collapse.
The Knicks jumped to an early lead in the third quarter, dominating with a 21-7 run, echoing cheers reminiscent of Madison Square Garden. The atmosphere shifted from boos to chants of “Let’s go Knicks!” with every notable score.
Brunson, after hitting a three-pointer that extended the lead to 84-72, saw Embiid attempt to close the gap, but his efforts fell short. The Knicks, having suffered nine losses in their previous 11 games, have now secured two consecutive victories, effectively maintaining their position in the Eastern Conference standings.
