A Unique Creation Targeting a Historic Milestone
Bugatti’s latest bespoke model, the Brouillard, enters the hypercar world with the poised assurance of a record contender. Merging the brand’s tradition of custom excellence with an adventurous new aesthetic, this exclusive commission is poised to become Bugatti’s most expensive offering. Built on the tried-and-true Chiron/Mistral framework, yet enhanced by distinctive craftsmanship, the Brouillard embodies both tribute and innovation.
A Name Inspired by Equestrian Heritage
Over a century ago, a remarkable white horse captured Ettore Bugatti‘s imagination in Molsheim. This equestrian legend now influences the car’s name and sensory identity. The result is a stunning automotive representation of athletic elegance—surfaces that resemble muscle, curves that invite motion, and details that subtly honor discipline and heritage. Horse motifs embroidered on the door panels and seatbacks reflect this narrative, while a miniature glass sculpture of the horse adorns the shifter.
Purposeful Sculptural Design
The Brouillard’s design features flowing surfaces rather than harsh creases, allowing light to cascade over its form reminiscent of a tendon beneath the skin. Aerodynamics enhance its elegance: an integrated ducktail replaces a deployable wing, smoothing airflow and improving stability at high speeds. Its athletic stance is complemented by tight volumes, and its visual language unmistakably belongs to Bugatti.
“Sculptural, organic forms—similar to a tendon beneath the skin—conceal immense power with noble simplicity,” said design chief Frank Heyl, perfectly summing up the car’s philosophy.
Exquisite Craftsmanship as an Art Form
The interior showcases an exceptional level of craftsmanship. Custom-woven fabrics from Paris feature a discreet tartan pattern, while green-tinted carbon fiber echoes the car’s exterior color. A glazed roof creates a cathedral ambiance, flooding the cabin with natural light. A central spine appears to seamlessly connect the exterior and interior, emphasizing both continuity and structure.
Notable features include:
- Custom textiles with subtle tartan designs
- Green-tinted carbon fiber matching the exterior
- A “cathedral” glass roof enhancing cabin ambiance
- A sculptural centerline connecting the inside and outside
- Bespoke embroidery and glass equine detailing
Peak W16 Performance
Under its sculpted exterior, the final iteration of Bugatti’s 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 engine delivers an astonishing 1,600 hp at 7,050 rpm and 1,600 Nm of torque. This represents the culmination of nearly twenty years of Bugatti engineering refined to perfection. The lightweight monocoque, combining carbon fiber and aluminum, keeps the weight around 1,900 kg for agility and control.
Experts predict the Brouillard may exceed the current top speed of 282 mph (454 km/h) achieved by the Mistral, thanks to its more aerodynamic body and the fixed ducktail. Regardless of whether it sets a new benchmark, its aim is unmistakable: relentless speed paired with refinement.
Exclusivity with a Rigorous Timeline
The commissioning process is meticulous, involving approximately 18 months of development for a planned delivery in 2027. Bugatti restricts itself to two creations annually, ensuring dedicated attention and rarity. Each vehicle is designed as a unique vision, tailored to the client’s collection and the brand’s ethos.
The Brouillard is set to be unveiled at the Monterey Car Week in 2025, placing it in front of the most discerning automotive enthusiasts. Its owner is a European collector with deep ties to the Bugatti legacy, encompassing both historic and modern vehicles, as well as Carlo Bugatti furniture and Rembrandt Bugatti bronzes.
A Price Tag Ready to Make History
While Bugatti hasn’t revealed a specific price, estimates suggest that the Brouillard will range between €10 million and €30 million. For context, a series Mistral starts at approximately €5 million, while the Brouillard incorporates extensive personalization, sculptural modifications, and a pace of production that highlights its scarcity. In a realm where uniqueness drives value, the path to a historical record is distinctly clear.
Significance for the Brand
The Brouillard encapsulates Bugatti’s dual identity: a blend of traditional savoir-faire and groundbreaking performance. It carries a narrative soul—the white horse of Molsheim—interwoven with modern materials and top-tier aerodynamics. As a moving statement, it underscores that the Bugatti ethos transcends mere speed; it encompasses story, craft, and the daring to pursue an ideal to its ultimate limit.
