Anthony Kim’s Remarkable Comeback at LIV Golf Adelaide
On Sunday at LIV Golf Adelaide, Anthony Kim made a stunning comeback, overcoming a five-shot deficit to secure his first professional win since the 2010 Shell Houston Open. By delivering an impressive final-round score of 63, he finished the tournament at 23 under par, clinching a three-stroke victory over Jon Rahm. Bryson DeChambeau shared the third spot with Tyrrell Hatton and Peter Uihlein at 17 under par.
A New Chapter in Life
Kim expressed his desire to be a role model, reflecting on his past and stating, “I wasn’t the best person, the best partner, or son when I was younger.” He emphasized that he has transformed into a completely different person, attributing his growth to faith, family, and sobriety.
Historic Achievements
As one of only five golfers to win three times on the PGA Tour before turning 25, Kim has also represented the U.S. in the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup. Notably, he once held the record for the most birdies in a single round at the Masters.
A Long Absence from the Game
After suffering an Achilles injury in 2012, Kim effectively stepped back from competitive golf. He disclosed in 2024 that over the years, he dealt with multiple injuries, including surgeries on his hand and spine, and struggled with substance abuse, even contemplating suicide.
Return to Golf
Kim’s long-discussed comeback materialized when he joined LIV Golf in February 2024. His first tournament in 12 years occurred that March, culminating in a redemptive victory at LIV Golf Adelaide.
The Final Round
Entering the final round five strokes behind Rahm and DeChambeau, Kim surprised everyone with his determination. While DeChambeau faltered, Kim kept his composure, matching Rahm’s pace as he made birdies, rapidly closing the gap. By the 12th hole, Kim tied for the lead, eventually pulling ahead and securing his victory with a confident performance.
Looking Ahead
Kim shared his mindset, remarking, “I know I can make a lot of birdies,” and acknowledged that while it’s been a long time since his last competitive play, he refuses to be intimidated. As he continues his journey back to success, Kim noted, “Nothing is holding me back,” highlighting his commitment to improvement.
