Arsenal Advances to Champions League Quarter-Finals
Arsenal secured a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals by defeating Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 on aggregate, thanks to amazing goals from Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice.
After needing a late penalty from Kai Havertz to achieve a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the Gunners delivered a commanding performance at the Emirates Stadium, continuing their pursuit of trophies across four competitions.
Eze opened the scoring in the first half with an impressive long-range shot after controlling a pass from Leandro Trossard, marking his fourth goal in just seven games.
Rice followed up with a spectacular second goal shortly after the hour mark, seamlessly converting a clearance and curling a beautiful shot into the corner of the net.
Leverkusen’s goalkeeper Janis Blaswich was pivotal in keeping the score closer, stopping ten shots as Arsenal consistently threatened his goal. Notable saves included efforts from Gabriel, Bukayo Saka, and Leandro Trossard.
Despite their limited chances, Leverkusen nearly found a consolation goal late on, forcing Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya into a remarkable one-handed save from Christian Kofane.
The victory sets Arsenal up for a match against Sporting Lisbon, who managed a stunning comeback to overcome a three-goal deficit against Bodo/Glimt earlier in the day. Mikel Arteta’s side will also face Manchester City in the upcoming Carabao Cup final, further enhancing their aspirations for silverware.
