Return to Regular Duties
CLEARWATER, Fla. — Dante Nori resumed his usual role on Wednesday at Carpenter Complex.
Minor League Game Play
In a Minor League matchup against Blue Jays prospects on Ashburn Field, Nori took the field. The audience had more prospects than fans, and in the bottom of the ninth inning, he flied out to left-center field, advancing a potential game-tying run to third base.
World Baseball Classic Experience
Reflecting on his impressive performance for Italy in the World Baseball Classic, Nori noted, “We joked about it, going from 40,000 fans to playing in left field on [Robin] Roberts [Field]. I was thrilled to reconnect with my teammates. I left for the Classic right before most of them arrived at camp. The excitement from our team’s success is still fresh, but it’s also a return to reality.”
Nori’s Rising Status
As the Phillies’ No. 7 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Nori batted leadoff in a Spring Breakout game against Twins prospects in Fort Myers. Recently, he faced Venezuela in the semifinals in Miami; although Italy lost, Alex Rodriguez endorsed Nori on national television, urging viewers to remember his name.
Outstanding Tournament Performance
Nori was the only player without MLB experience to be selected for the All-Tournament team, boasting a .400 batting average with two home runs, six RBIs, and a 1.185 OPS during the tournament. He shared that, “Nothing felt out of place. Despite the hype, it felt normal and exciting being on that stage.”
Future Prospects
Anticipated to start the season with Double-A Reading, Nori could quickly ascend to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Following Johan Rojas’ 80-game suspension for PEDs, Phillies manager Rob Thomson discussed alternative options for center field, naming Nori among them due to his remarkable performance during the World Baseball Classic.
Continuing the Momentum
Nori brought back mementos from his time in the Classic, including a signed baseball and jerseys from his memorable games. He expressed his hopes of maintaining the momentum he gained at the Classic: “I still feel that adrenaline rush and the realization that I can compete with the best.” He also mentioned, “They’re in the process of securing my citizenship for future events like the Olympics.”
