Potential Trades on the Horizon for the Giants
The Giants may be setting the stage for some possible trades in the coming days.
Beginning Sunday and continuing through Tuesday at the NFL owners meeting, all 32 teams’ officials will converge at the Arizona Biltmore. With such influential figures gathered together and the NFL draft scheduled for April 23, numerous discussions could lead to significant trading opportunities.
It’s particularly noteworthy that Giants co-owner John Mara is attending this meeting while undergoing cancer treatment; he has been unable to attend road games during the 2025 season. On Sunday, he was seen walking through the Biltmore with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, engaged in conversation as they headed to a meeting.
Mara, aged 71, making an appearance at this gathering is commendable given his health challenges. For years, he has been a key figure at these league meetings, both as a representative of his franchise and as an influential member of the Competition Committee, which evaluates game aspects and approves rule changes. Notably, he vocally opposed the suggestion from several owners two years ago to move regular-season games from Sunday to Thursday night, calling it inconsiderate to season-ticket holders.
Chris Mara, the team’s senior player personnel executive and director, is also present, playing a significant role alongside his brother John in the recent decision to hire John Harbaugh as head coach. In contrast, the other co-owner Steve Tisch, a regular attendee, will not be present, as he is in the process of transferring his stake in the team to his children, a transition requiring approval from fellow NFL owners.
For this offseason, Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen have begun collaborating on key signings, aiming to boost the team’s roster in preparation for Harbaugh’s first voluntary workout program on April 7. As this phase unfolds, it will be crucial for integrating new strategies, especially considering the upcoming draft where Schoen will be selecting players for a new head coach.
With all GMs and coaches gathered for these few days, the atmosphere resembles a pre-draft convention, filled with trade discussions in private rooms and hallways. Currently, the Giants hold seven picks, but none in the third round, which complicates their strategy. They own the fifth overall pick and the 37th pick in the second round, followed by their next opportunity at the 105th pick in the fourth round. Given this, Harbaugh may consider trading down to acquire additional picks, a possibility Schoen acknowledged at the recent NFL scouting combine. He emphasized the importance of evaluating all potential options over the next few days.
