While many are eager to discuss who might succeed Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich, Jonas Urbig prefers to focus on his personal development and daily improvement.
“That’s not for me to decide. What I can control is maintaining a positive mindset and quality, and translating that into performance because FC Bayern is a massive club. I believe I’ve approached my role well, staying mentally ready and able to contribute on the field. So far, I feel I’ve been successful in that,” Urbig conveyed to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg. “Currently, my priority is my knee recovery and helping the team in our upcoming competitions. As for the World Cup selection, that’s up to the national coach. My main concern is achieving team success.”
When asked why he chose to join Bayern Munich knowing Neuer was firmly established, Urbig offered insightful reasons.
“Ultimately, I saw a chance to grow both athletically and personally. I was drawn by a great coach, an excellent goalkeeping coach, a strong goalkeeping group, and a superior team. These factors motivated me to take the bold step to FC Bayern, and I have no regrets,” stated Urbig.
While it would be easy for Urbig to embrace the attention that comes with his rising status, he remains grounded. Despite earlier skepticism about his potential to take over from Neuer, he is now being viewed as a serious contender for Germany’s No. 1 goalkeeper position.
Urbig’s profile has grown significantly, yet he has managed to keep his ego in check, a challenging feat in today’s environment. It’s evident that Bayern Munich’s future is secure with him.
