The global box office performance of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is just as powerful as its predecessor, Super Mario Bros. As of now, it has reached a total of $122.1M worldwide since Wednesday. This figure is 1.1% higher than the early global tally for Super Mario Bros Movie, which stood at $120.7M during the same time frame. The sequel’s international opening produced $63M in its first two days, comparable to the first film’s earnings. On Thursday alone, it garnered $27.9M across 78 markets, whereas Super Mario Bros had a Thursday figure of $27.6M. The domestic total currently stands at $59.1M.
In terms of specific markets, Mexico contributed $5.7M on Thursday, bringing its total to $12.5M, making it the leading film with an 85% share of the total box office. The movie is being screened in 4,900 theaters this weekend.
In UK & Ireland, the film earned $3M on Thursday, accounting for a 50% share of the day’s box office, with a cumulative total of $7.3M over two days.
Germany reported $2.8M on Thursday, reaching $6.6M total so far, marking the biggest opening week of the year in that market.
In Spain, the film made $2.3M on Thursday, resulting in a total of $5.4M and holding the No. 1 position with a 57% market share.
Central America saw $1.5M on Thursday, the second-biggest gross for that day in the market’s history, exceeding the opening Thursday of Super Mario Bros by 4%. The two-day total is $2.3M, and the film holds a 94% market share. In Italy, $1.2M was added on Thursday, bringing its total to $2.7M as the leading film with a 64% market share. Additionally, early numbers from China show that the film earned $1.58M on its first day, ranking it first in the market.
