Raul Dominguez Returns to RailRiders
Raul Dominguez has rejoined the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders this season. Previously, he served on the RailRiders’ coaching staff for the 2021 and 2022 seasons before becoming the manager of the New York Yankees’ Double-A affiliate, the Somerset Patriots, in 2023. During his three seasons there, he achieved a 232-180 record and led the Patriots to the Eastern League playoffs each year.
Excitement for New Challenges
Now back with the RailRiders, Dominguez will take on the role of defensive coach alongside manager Shelley Duncan. “I’m excited to come back to Triple-A with a new staff and work with many players for the first time,” Dominguez remarked. “As a coach, every year brings new learning opportunities from different managers and coaches.”
Building Relationships with Players
Dominguez previously connected with several players while coaching in Somerset. “Having established relationships with some of these players is beneficial,” he shared. “I know what they need to improve on, and I’m looking forward to working with them again.”
World Baseball Classic Experience
Before his return to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Dominguez enjoyed a unique experience as the first-base coach for Panama during the World Baseball Classic. Competing in Pool A in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Panama finished with a record of 1-3, edging out Canada while losing close matches to Cuba and Puerto Rico.
Memorable Moments from the Tournament
“Those four games were filled with excitement and intense emotions,” Dominguez reflected. “Even though we only secured one win, the atmosphere was electric. It became one of my best experiences in baseball, especially representing Panama.”
Yankees Prospects Shine at WBC
Brendan Beck, who ranks No. 22 among Yankees prospects, also participated in the Classic with Great Britain. He noted the significance of representing his mother’s heritage. Beck’s performance included a standout four-scoreless-inning start against Brazil. “Wearing that uniform was really special,” he said, “especially for my family.”
Global Impact of the WBC
Harrison Cohen and Elmer Rodríguez also contributed to their national teams, enhancing the tournament’s global appeal. “The World Baseball Classic highlights how baseball is a global sport,” Beck mentioned. “The passion shown by players and fans points to the game’s universal language, making the experience unforgettable.”
