Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name in cricket history by becoming the youngest centurion in IPL history, achieving this feat just nine days after making his debut at the age of 14 in 2025.
Now at 15, India’s emerging cricket sensation continues his impressive rise, with many advocating for his inclusion in the national team.
During his debut IPL season, Sooryavanshi impressed fans with a 35-ball century as a 14-year-old. In the 2026 season, he has proven to be a consistent performer for the Rajasthan Royals, demonstrating an extraordinary talent for excelling under pressure.
He has already notched two rapid fifties—15 balls each—against Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and currently ranks as the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 200 runs in five innings with a strike rate of 263.15.
While he experienced a rare golden duck in a recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, his ability to strike the ball powerfully and maintain composure at the crease has left seasoned players in awe.
‘Cricket is not as easy as he’s playing’
Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel of India and Rajasthan Royals expressed his admiration, stating, “We can’t believe how he hits the ball. He is an exceptional talent, and it feels great to have him on our team.” He added, “When Vaibhav is hitting every ball, it seems like nothing’s happening on the pitch. Cricket isn’t as simple as he makes it look.”
With teammates praising his exceptional talents, one important question arises: how long can India overlook Sooryavanshi?
How long can India ignore Sooryavanshi?
Given the plethora of emerging talent in India, and with the T20 team recently crowned World Cup champions, it remains uncertain if selectors will consider modifying a winning combination. However, every so often, a player emerges who is simply too special to ignore.
Sooryavanshi seems to belong to the elite group of players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. His remarkable 175 propelled India to a decisive victory over England, securing a sixth title at the U19 World Cup final in February.
Sooryavanshi’s potential international debut
With a busy summer of white-ball fixtures ahead, there are many opportunities for him to debut internationally. If he isn’t called for the multi-format series against Afghanistan, he could make his mark when India tours the British Isles, facing Ireland and England in seven T20Is and three ODIs during June and July.
Regardless of when it happens, it appears only a matter of time before Sooryavanshi receives his call-up to the national team, signaling to the cricketing world that he is a talent to watch.
