The recent voting results show a slight preference for Ohtani. However, with a few weeks of the season now complete, it’s time to consider various emerging hitters and established stars who are climbing the rankings.
A panel of experts from MLB.com was asked to rank the top hitters in baseball early in the 2026 season. Here’s our second edition of the Hitter Power Rankings for this year.
All stats are current through Tuesday’s games.
Ohtani remains at the top of our rankings, having opened the season strong with a .254/.402/.508 line and five home runs in 17 games. While he hasn’t fully hit his peak, he continues to excel on getting on base, currently holding the longest active on-base streak in MLB at 48 games, fourth longest for a Dodgers player since 1900.
Despite some challenges in Houston, Alvarez is proving to be a key contributor. After being limited by injury last season, he’s back with impressive stats, including 11 extra-base hits and a .799 expected slugging percentage, leading to 16 walks, which ties him for the MLB lead.
Judge has started the season with a .234/.329/.547 line, a performance that’s still significantly above average. He’s heating up lately, hitting three home runs in three games, including a remarkable 456-foot homer, while maintaining one of the highest barrel rates in the league.
Walker appears to be experiencing the much-anticipated breakout season, leading the Majors with eight home runs, a remarkable increase from last season. He is also greatly improving his ability to drive the ball, resulting in a notable rise in his production.
Schwarber continues to impress, already hitting six home runs this season, including a recent multi-homer game. Since joining the Phillies, he stands out for his ability to secure multiple home runs in single games, showing his consistent power-hitting ability.
