Brooks Koepka recently departed from LIV Golf and sought reinstatement in the PGA Tour. The organization outlined certain penalties he must face, which includes his route into Signature Events. Although Koepka has demonstrated solid performance this season, he must now await his entry into the $20 million 2026 RBC Heritage.
“Playing the waiting game 👀 As first alternate, if Brooks Koepka gets in, Keith Mitchell and Taylor Moore would also gain entry due to the Returning Member Program,” the PGA Tour stated in a post on X.
This means that Koepka’s participation hinges on any last-minute withdrawals, as only a handful of golfers are left to tee off. Moreover, the wait exceeds seven hours, with the RBC Heritage having one of the largest fields for a Signature Event, with no morning or afternoon tee times.
The first group, featuring David Lipsky and Chandler Blanchet, tees off at 7 am local time, leading to a lineup of 41 continuous tee times over the course of 7 hours. Notable players like Max Homa, Scottie Scheffler, and other top talents will play shortly before the last groups.
Consequently, Koepka must wait until all players have teed off to determine if he will have a chance to compete in the RBC Heritage 2026.
Fan Backlash Against the PGA Tour
The PGA Tour faced immediate criticism regarding Koepka’s situation. Many fans highlighted the mismatch between his achievements and his current lack of entry. With the RBC Heritage having a limited field of 82, numerous lesser-known golfers filled the slots, while renowned players, including 2026 Masters champion Rory McIlroy, were absent.
Despite Koepka being ranked 129, fans argue that the five-time major champion’s presence would enhance the event’s competitiveness. Additionally, the structure of Signature Events drew criticism, with some arguing for the inclusion of more players to make the competitions more engaging.
Overall, the sentiment among fans reflects frustration with the strict policies surrounding Koepka’s reinstatement, especially after he faced public scrutiny and financial penalties. The overarching perception is that the PGA Tour capitalizes on his notoriety while constraining his opportunities.
