With the 2026 NFL Draft now concluded, it’s time to analyze the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie class. In the coming weeks, I will share detailed film breakdowns of the Eagles’ draft picks here at Bleeding Green Nation. If you’d like to cross-reference, my pre-draft rankings and position previews remain accessible. A quick note regarding the film: I cannot share All-22 footage here due to potential content strikes, so I will utilize clips from other sources. However, comprehensive All-22 analyses will be available on my Patreon, which I encourage you to support if you’re interested in complete game footage. Let’s dive in!
Heading into the draft, many believed the Eagles needed a starting-caliber safety. Most anticipated an earlier selection. Surprisingly, the Eagles didn’t draft their first safety until pick No. 244, which puts a bit of pressure on Cole Wisniewski, considering late-round picks often bear fewer expectations.
Wisniewski missed out on an NFL Combine invitation, despite a strong production profile that warranted attention, which I believe unfairly hurt his draft stock and pushed him into Day 3. I’m not claiming he’ll star since he’s a 7th-round pick, but he fits a specific mold the Eagles have successfully utilized in recent years. Thus, I find him to be a compelling selection.
Wisniewski is a decisive player who takes efficient pursuit angles, sheds blocks with strength, and rarely misses tackles in the open field. At 6’3” and 219 pounds, he is a big, physical, and competitive player with strong tackling mechanics that stand out. For a team looking for safeties who can effectively support the run from depth, he excels in that role.
Processing and Football Intelligence
Having previously played as a high school quarterback, Wisniewski’s background enhances his understanding of the game. The Eagles’ trend of selecting former quarterbacks further highlights his potential. He reads route concepts well, diagnoses plays quickly, and shows strong recognition of blocking assignments.
Size and Physical Profile
At about 6’3” and 219 pounds, Wisniewski’s size fits the mold of a big safety who can cover tight ends and assist in run support. His impressive 36.5-inch vertical jump indicates lower-body explosiveness. His reliability in tackling and physicality makes him a valuable asset for special teams while he develops his coverage skills.
Overall Assessment and Fit With the Eagles
Cole Wisniewski embodies what one would expect from a player of his profile—a big, intelligent safety with solid run-defense skills and some coverage limitations. I believe he has a genuine chance to contribute, similar to how the Eagles developed Reed Blankenship. Although he may be limited in coverage, his instincts could eventually allow him to evolve into a key player.
