Beginning May 28, Vault Hunters seeking a challenging endgame experience can engage in the Raid Boss 2 battle against Subjugator and Thol the Invincible, included in the complimentary Version 1.7 update. Here’s a guide to help you gear up for this formidable two-boss encounter.
Subjugator and Thol the Invincible have been trapped in servitude to the Timekeeper, isolated on an island near the Fadefields, anxiously awaiting a worthy opponent to challenge them.
At the start of this confrontation, you’ll face off against both Subjugator and Thol in a tag-team style fight. They will alternate attacking you, culminating in a powerful combined assault.
However, defeating one boss only marks the beginning of a fierce matchup. The surviving boss will gain strength and retreat to regain full power, showcasing a different set of abilities. Regardless of who remains, expect a high-stakes duel.
Loot Drops from Subjugator and Thol the Invincible
If you manage to defeat both bosses, you could earn some impressive rewards. Here’s what you can expect from Raid Boss 2:
- 1 new Pearlescent weapon:
- Jail-Broken Gatling (Ripper SMG): Grants buffs to fire rate, damage, weapon recoil, and increases the likelihood of shooting additional projectiles with each enemy hit.
- 4 new Legendary items:
- Lockjaw (Torgue Assault Rifle): Launches explosive projectiles that bounce between targets.
- Shammy Kablammy (Tediore Pistol): Soaks enemies in burning Moonshine and releases an explosive projectile upon reload that inflicts Incendiary damage based on the number of targets ignited.
- Flak Cannon (Vladof Heavy Weapon Ord.): Unleash a torrent of bullets on foes.
- Collector (Order Shield): Endure extensive assaults with this high-capacity Energy Shield, which recharges quickly but has a longer delay.
- 5 new Class Mods:
- Each Vault Hunter will have unique Class Mods in the loot pool shared by Subjugator and Thol the Invincible, with a new Class Mod for the sixth Vault Hunter arriving in Story Pack 2 in Q3 2026.
- New firmware:
- Active Fire: At Tier 3, releasing a charge weapon’s full-charge shot immediately will cause bonus damage, rewarding accurate timing with increased lethality.
Remember, you’ll need to complete the main campaign before facing Subjugator and Thol the Invincible, so complete that quest before May 28.
Additionally, for the avid players reaching the highest Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (UVHM) levels, Version 1.7 introduces UVHM Level 7, further escalating the endgame challenge.
Shared Character Progression Toggle
This update will also implement a Shared Character Progression toggle for all players. Previous updates have enabled a variety of features, such as collectibles and map progress, to be shared across characters. The community has expressed a desire for this to be optional, allowing players to experience a fresh start with new Vault Hunters.
The Shared Character Progression toggle will be available on May 28, letting you start a new Vault Hunter with a clean slate. This allows you to experience Kairos anew if desired, catering to different playstyles.
Upcoming DevCast on May 26
Two days before the encounter with Subjugator and Thol the Invincible, a new episode of the Gearbox DevCast will be released. Hosts Andrew Reiner and April Johnson will be joined by Lead Level Designer David Ruiz, discussing the encounter’s design, the lore, and upcoming features in Version 1.7.
Future Content
As detailed in our Upcoming Content Roadmap, we have much more planned for Kairos this year. Version 1.8 will introduce a free Takedown and the paid Bounty Pack 3 DLC in late June, providing fresh challenges for Vault Hunters.
Later this year, expect additional Bounty Packs and a Story Pack 2 featuring a new Vault Hunter and map. Players who own the Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition will receive all bundle content, while the Borderlands 4 Deluxe Edition includes the Bounty Pack Bundle. All packs will be available for separate purchase.
Prepare for the encounter with Subjugator and Thol the Invincible on May 28!
